UNCLOG YOUR PORES WITH THE INNISFREE

🌿JEJU VOLCANIC PORE CLEANSING FOAM🌿

AMY DANG on JUNE 19, 2020

Innisfree is probably one of the first K-Beauty brands I was ever introduced to. With K-Pop idols like Yoona from Girls’ Generation as their spokesperson, it’s no wonder why it became so popular. Like many skincare amateurs, I gravitated towards Innisfree as it was affordable, easily accessible (they have stores everywhere!) and prided itself in using natural ingredients. While I’ve tried many of their products before — including their beloved green tea line — I never quite fell in love with anything. It’s not that they were bad, per se. I just didn’t notice their effects or felt much difference to my skin. Unfortunately, the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam seems to be consistent with my previous feelings. I’ll explain later on.

THE CLEANSING FOAM

Meant for oily and combination skin types, the Innisfree cleansing foam claims to rid your skin of excess oil and cleanse pores from its impurities. Formulated with Jeju volcanic clusters, which contain particles that are smaller than pores, it deeply cleanses clogged pores so your skin can become clearer, smoother and refreshed. It also leaves your skin’s appearance less shiny/oily.

THE SMELL

Fragrance-wise, the Innisfree cleansing foam’s smell is actually very soothing. It has sweet and refreshing notes to it. It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting from a “volcanic” scent, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless! I’m no expert in the matter, but if my olfactory senses were happy, then I’m happy.

THE FEELING

The cleansing foam lathers quite quickly and creates a very rich/dense texture, certainly different from what I’m used to. A little squirt of the formula really goes a long way with this product, which is a bonus in my books. The cleanser also contains exfoliating beads called “volcanic clusters” that dissolve as you lather, which helps to further remove impurities and really cleanse out those clogged pores. Although after continual use, I haven’t noticed any dramatic difference to my pores, my skin still feels refreshed and clean.

My main qualm about cleansing foams from road shop brands like Innisfree, The Face Shop and the like is that they usually leave my skin feeling pretty tight and overly squeaky clean. I’ve run into this problem a few times in the past and unfortunately, this was also the case.

Despite washing off nicely and with lots of foam, my skin felt a little too tight for my liking post-wash. It’s not horribly dry or strips away all the moisture entirely, but it’s definitely more “powerful” (for lack of a better word) than other cleansing foams. Even for my combination skin, it felt a little harsh. Perhaps that is the result of the deep cleansing for clogged pores? Thankfully, the rest of my skincare routine is there to alleviate this problem by providing some well-needed hydration. Overall, would I say it was super effective at cleaning? Yes. But did I fall in love with it? Not really.

THE INGREDIENTS

The Innisfree cleansing foam is formulated with volcanic ash from Mt. Hallasan in Jeju. Jeju volcanic ash has a porous structure that is apparently very rich in minerals and that absorbs excess sebum, impurities from pores as well as the dead skin cells. This powerful ingredient does wonders to really clear the skin from such heavy impurities.

WATER / AQUA / EAU, GLYCERIN, MYRISTIC ACID, STEARIC ACID, PEG-32, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, PALMITIC ACID, LAURIC ACID, HYDRATED SILICA, LAURYL GLUCOSIDE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PEG-100 STEARATE, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, FRAGRANCE / PARFUM, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, POLYQUATERNIUM-7, SODIUM CHLORIDE, MANNITOL, MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, DISODIUM EDTA, SODIUM BENZOATE, VOLCANIC ASH, SILICA, LACTIC ACID.

THE TAKEAWAY

While I didn’t hate the Innisfree cleanser, I didn’t love it either. Considering that I’m used to gentler cleansing foams, I’m not surprised this one felt a tad too “strong” for me. Perhaps this is just a matter of preference, but I think I’ll stick with my mild cleansers for now. I will, however, continue to use the Innisfree cleansing foam for those days when I wear extra makeup or have really oily skin. All in all, I really do believe people with oily skin tendencies can greatly benefit from this product — just check out the many positive reviews that speak for themselves!
